We will be beginning our draft next week, however, many of you have not been checking with us and/or updated your rosters completely. This may affect your ability to participate in the draft.
The draft will be for Arbitration eligible players only. No players will be returned to their original/MLB teams, so it's imperative that you participate or get left behind.
The draft will proceed in the following manner:
Reverse draft order, non-snake. Worst record of the remaining teams from last season drafts first, best record drafts last. Your pick will be bumped down one in the order if you did not meet the minimum IP/AB requirements of the league (700 IP, 3000 AB) and/or did not field a full roster. Yes, this means you can be penalized for both not meeting the requirements and not having a player slotted in an empty position. You will have 24 hours on the clock to pick, drafting will start at 8 am Monday morning. It doesn't matter when you draft during that day, all draft windows open at 8 am and end at 8 am.
For instance, Tampa Bay goes on the clock at 8 am, drafts at 10 pm, the next GM to pick will have his opportunity from 8 am the next day to 8 am the following day. If you miss your draft slot, you miss your draft for that round. That means you MUST CHECK THE SITE REGULARLY! or you will miss out.
We do not have all teams filled, this means that the leadership will be taking turns drafting (and bidding on free agents) based on positional needs of the teams remaining without ownership. This is to try to keep them viable for new GM's to come in and take over mid-season or next season.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns feel free to ask any of the leadership members either in PM or publicly.
To speed up the process of drafting we will allow GM's to draft as soon as the GM in front of them completes their pick, however, no GM is officially 'on on the clock' until 8 am the next morning.
For instance, Detroit drafts at 10:30 am Monday morning, I can then draft at 11:00 am, the Rockies could then draft at any time on Monday, but won't be on the clock until Tuesday morning at 8 am. He'll then have 24 hours to select his player or lose his pick for that round.
So please, please PLEASE! Keep checking in here at least once a day to keep the draft moving. If you will be offline for any portion of the draft then remember to contact the leadership with your top choices for that draft round and keep the list deep, if your choices are already drafted you won't draft.

Draft FAQ:
Q: If I miss my pick, but the next team hasn't drafted yet, can I still draft?
A: No, if the clock hits 8:01 AM and you still haven't picked you've lost your pick for that round.
Q: Is there a 'sandwich' type pick for people who missed it?
A: No, again, if you fail to draft in time you lose your draft pick.
Q: What if I can't make it for my draft position? I've got plans / my grandmother is dying / my internet connection is out and I'm using a cyber cafe.
A: The way that the draft is setup should give you an idea of when you'll have to make your pick, if you know you won't be able to make your pick for whatever reason you can send the leadership a list of your top 10 choices for that round and we'll draft the highest one available.
Q: Hey! That was my player!
A: No one will be getting players back unless they draft them.
Q: Weren't prospects supposed to be drafted?
A: Originally, yes. The scale of figuring out every team's farm system to discover unprotected prospects was a daunting one, and quite frankly too daunting for us to do here. We're currently working on a plan for prospects involving a waiver system working very similarly to the draft order.
Q: Won't this drive down free agency prices?
A: Hopefully not too much. We realize that this is a gamble, but we also have faith that the arbitration players aren't nearly as strong of a class as the top free agent talent will be this season.
Q: Won't having the leadership drafting and signing players be a conflict of interest?
A: We're working to minimize this. We plan on getting leadership members to not draft from any team either directly in front or behind their own team. The priority is for positional need, then talent level, then length of arbitration years left. As for free agency, we'll try to identify the leadership GM's who have the fewest needs in common with the team(s) they'll be bidding as, here again the priority is positional need.
Q: What teams will we be drafting from?
A: The teams being contracted are: Oakland, LAD, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, New York Mets, Seattle, Tampa Bay, Cincinnati, Atlanta and Washington. As of right now though, only the A's roster is fully updated, we are working on getting the rest up to date ASAP.
Q: Did we ever nail down a format for the league? I gotta know what to look for in the draft!
A: We're going with a roto style regular season and will attempt a H2H post season as a separate league. However, if this proves to be too confusing or not possible, then we will discuss the matter during the 2011 off season.
Q: Why is my draft pick lower than Fantrax shows it should be? What the (-X) by my team's name?
A: If you did not field a full roster, each roster position left open dropped your draft pick, if you could not reach the minimum IP/AB then your draft pick was dropped from it's original position. This was done to try to prevent teams who did worse than they could have theoretically done from getting top draft picks.
