Ok here we are in free agency, and I've been thinking about free agency in real life as well. It just occurred to me that teams in real life can take their bids off the table. Since we are so big on trying to stay close to MLB rules and regulations, should we allow something similar?
But before you respond, I am not saying that I want teams to rescind their bids for free. I think maybe there should be a $1 penalty to your cap for the upcoming season for every bid that a team takes back. (Or maybe as long as the contract, but the penalty decreases a certain amount until the proposed contract is over.)
If no one likes the idea, that's cool, just throwing it out there.

It is an interesting thought.
I am a little concerned about the administration of something like that (all fines, in fact) becoming rather tough to handle.
The penalty $1 does make it worth thinking about, though. It will certainly discourage teams from doing it, but still give them an "out."

Usually that happens when a free agent sits on it for too long, like the A's and Beltre this year. Here it takes 24 hours for a bid to sit and the player has no say in it. If this were a GM vs Agent league, then that would be appropriate, but I don't even want to wrap my head around how we'd get that to work and trying to get enough 'agents' to represent all the players in FA.

Indians, I hear ya, but that's what the penalty would be for.
I just think we should have some way for a GM to get out of the bid, but not without consequence.

I'm with the Phillies about the difficulty in managing it. I'd also like to see that if we did do this that we mandated that it would have to be after the bid was finalized. I don't like the idea of a guy bidding then a couple hours later realizing he was going to have to pay more for a more desirable FA and wiggle out of it.
I see where you're coming from, just don't think it's really feasible for us to implement by next season.

Rawr I'm so mad you're not listening to my idea (remind you of anyone? haha)
But in all seriousness, it's no biggie. But if something like this ever does become a possibility and you need helping managing it, I'd be glad to help.
