Ok, so I've received lots of complaints about how proboards' search engine sucks. I agree, it's not exactly user friendly, but it is manageable.
First, you can start your search by clicking on "Search" under the banner between "Help" and "Members". Once there, it looks pretty simple, right? Well scroll all the way to the bottom, ALL THE WAY. Here you will find what I believe is tripping everyone up and first had me scratching my head back on the old forums. Down at the bottom you'll see "hours" and "days" text boxes. The default is 7 days, I usually set this to something like 700 or something big so to ensure that I know that my search will go back far enough. Below that is another text box for "maximum search results". I usually set this to 1000, again, just because it's better safe than sorry. And ignore the option box below that, you'll probably want to at least skim everything you find first.
One last thing that you should all know: The search engine will automatically filter out any word that's 3 letters or shorter. So if you wanted to find an Ed, Pat, or Cy, you're better off trying their last names to find them, this really sucks if you got some guy with a really weird name like Pat Ng, for which I have no suggestions. To supplement your search use ctrl+f. It should bring up a mini search box at the top right hand portion of your browser window (I know it works in IE, Chrome and I think Firefox) and so if you are looking to a Pat Young you can filter further to just every occurring of "Pat Young" if there's no space it wont find it, if there's two spaces it wont find it, if it's Pat Youngblood it will show up though.
You can then click the up and down arrows to search for each occurrence of "Pat Young" for your entire "Young" search results. This comes in quite handy for the more common names or looking through older records or even those messages that pop up that you just can't find the guy's name in.
I hope this helps you guys out, once you figure it out, searching this site is super easy.
