BUMP
All GM's are REQUIRED to reply to this thread acknowledging the changes made. Then, once you have complied with the changes made reply again. I know this is a busy time of year for everyone, but many of you have logged in and read this post without acknowledging it.
At least respond initially and when you get the chance fix your rosters.

I understand. Morales had a few too many ABs last year.

i am working to adjust my roster, but just a point of concern. The ops level is especially low for what it costs. a player with mediocre power and a relatively average OBP gets bumped up. i think the scale should be moved up 50 to 100 points

I started at .800 because Fangraph's lists 149 eligible position players from last year, .765 was the median (right in the middle) average of all players. While it may seem unfair that a guy with no power gets valued more, it's a minimal amount ($1) and median OBP was .340 (Figgins) while SLG was .435 (Bobby Abreu). Using the OBP and SLG from those two wont cost a thing (.775). A guy like Choo making only ~ $1 for his .885 OPS highly undervalues him. Also remember that only 7 qualified position players posted an OBP of .400 or better (Fielder, Choo, Mauer, Hamilton, Pujols, M Cabrera, and Votto), they all slugged .470+ and they should be paid for their achievements. The league leadership is currently reviewing all arbitration pay scales and we're not happy about it at all. Under the current system, Anibal Sanchez would earn $1, but the guy's ERA was in the top third of MLB and struck out 157 (better than half of all qualified SP's) and posted a reasonable WHIP. Based on what number targets MLB teams use as benchmarks (comparing to the numbers that we look at here) we seriously undervalue guys who have real value in their arbitration years. I'm not saying that we give Anibal $10 in his sixth year, But I do believe that he is worth more than $1 when all is said and done. Basically, we're looking at an unbalanced scale right now and players that perform above average in any category need to be recognized. Some categories need a lower baseline without bumping their top numbers too much (I'm thinking W's should top at 20 and start at 10) and others need to be drastically bumped down as we exit the steroid era of baseball and certain numbers aren't as easily achieved (29 HR worth $1? only 18/149 qualified players had 30+). We wont be making decisions on any further arbitration costs this season as we would like to prevent the whole system from being rocked all at once during this transition phase, but look for possible changes next season. I appreciate you voicing your concern about this. i am working to adjust my roster, but just a point of concern. The ops level is especially low for what it costs. a player with mediocre power and a relatively average OBP gets bumped up. i think the scale should be moved up 50 to 100 points

I understand that if choo only had ops as his factor that would undervalue him, but there are extra factors taken into account, avg, rbi etc. I feel like this pushes the whole scale upwards and you lose the value in having arbitration eligible players. Under the past system, a player like nelson cruz, a 5th year player who missed half of the year would be valued at 4, but now he is almost doubled to 7.2.
