Basically, the DBacks have stated exactly why the rules are the way they are perfectly. It sucked for me to have to tell the Jays that he lost his pick, he's a member of the leadership, and though I would have liked to have helped him, my hands were tied.
Also, I have been contacting everyone if I think that they may have missed that they are on the clock or if it has been an extended period of time after they were on the clock. Unfortunately though, I wasn't able to contract the Jays until 5 minutes before he lost his.
I've encouraged the league to send in picks if there was any doubt in their minds as to whether or not they would be able to draft in that round and have given out the email address several times, but still it sits empty. All we can do is try to be as accommodating as possible while still getting things done as fast as possible.
So once again, if you have any concern of missing your pick, please send the leadership a list of players you would like to draft and place them in order so that you get your first choice first (if he's available). You can even go so far as to set a time frame for the pick such as "I wont be online from 9pm the 3rd until the 3pm the 4th", and we will only pick for you if your pick lands in that time frame. If you can take anything away from what has happened to the Jays, please let it be this: It's better safe than sorry.
1. when would they then draft (it would take effort to sort that out)
2. I'm happy because a player I wanted could potentially be available one pick earlier
3. everyone has a chance to submit a list of picks prior to their turn in the order.
In conclusion, Jays had from 8:42 pm until 8:42 am to pick, they did not submit a list of picks, and management has done more than enough to keep this league running smoothly so they should not have any extra work created for them. I also don't want to see the Jays picking at any random time (potentially picking the same player at the exact same time as the GM that is "on the clock") causing even more confusion and extra work.

I think it is a big deal.
